On the home board set it was tested with, it read 99.2% of letters on held-out test photos1 (see note 1). Anything it misreads is one tap to fix, before the score counts.

The word starts on the centre star, which doubles it. This box only does the arithmetic; the app also checks the dictionary and scores every cross-word.

No. Scoring, the dictionary and the photo reading run on the phone, and linked phones only need the same Wi-Fi or one phone’s hotspot.
